Detroit-based muralist and illustrator Jesse Kassel, a graduate of a BFA program in illustration (2010), hails from a family steeped in visual arts and has carved out a signature Americana style that blends nostalgia with social commentary. Drawing inspiration from vintage advertising and graphic design, his vibrant murals and printed works depict leisure-seeking, working-class life—often evoking mid-century imagery of alcohol, tobacco, and celebration while hinting at deeper themes of dependency and loss Kassel collaborates with both grassroots projects and established brands—ranging from Detroit’s Art in Public Murals and Leaf Group’s New York City offices to campaigns for Jameson whiskey, the Detroit Pistons, and Condado Tacos. His versatile practice includes hand-painted signs, pole-banner designs, limited-edition prints, and large-scale street art across Detroit and beyond—earning him institutional recognition, gallery representation, and even auction placements (his first work sold at Heritage Auctions in 2021)
